A blueprint for the future of a large area of land – earmarked for about 350 homes – in a South Buckinghamshire town, has been given the green light.

Former Ministry of Defence site Wilton Park, in Beaconsfield Old Town, was sold last year and for over 12 months discussions on the future of the area have been ongoing.

The door has now been opened for a full planning application to be submitted, with the South Bucks District Council cabinet approving the Wilton Park draft Supplementary Planning Document last week.

As well as a possible development of 350 homes, a new community hub and other recreational facilities have also been suggested for the area.

The sale of Wilton Park has been a contentious issue in Beaconsfield in recent years with some concerned the development would not be right for the area.

However, the developers have said they are keen to work with the public and last year secured permission for the first stage of a long-awaited relief road in the town.
