One of High Wycombe’s oldest residents took the weight off her feet this week as the town’s mayor invited her and other residents to visit his parlour – and sit in the ancient weighing chair.
Councillor Khalil Ahmed – who will step down as mayor next month – hosted a group from the Pastures sheltered housing this week and spoke about the history of his role.
As well as speaking and presenting the group with a bouquet of flowers, he also invited 103-year-old Gwen Snook to sit in the ancient weighing chair, which is used at the annual weighing-in ceremony.
The event takes place each year and sees a new High Wycombe mayor officially appointed.
This May, Cllr Ahmed will be replaced by his current deputy, Cllr Mohammed Hanif.
