A newborn baby was almost delivered in an ambulance after complications in labour led to a journey from High Wycombe to Stoke Mandeville – but new parents Louise and Daniel say the birth of their first child has been “amazing”.

Willow-May Jenkins-Smith was born in Stoke Mandeville Hospital on March 25, weighing 7lbs 8oz.

The little girl’s mother, from Downley, had originally planned to deliver her daughter at Wycombe Birth Centre, but instead had to be transferred after circumstances changed in labour.

The parents said: “Willow-May is our first baby, and the experience has been amazing so far, however with a few challenges along the way.

“Whilst travelling from Wycombe to Stoke baby Willow-May was ready to be brought into the world and we just made it in time for a safe delivery at Stoke.”

They added: “Baby Willow is a calm relaxed character that likes to take things easy including feeding; she is so relaxed that whilst taking the photos in the three hour session Willow remained asleep.

“Mum and Dad are overwhelmed with joy with their buddle of joy.”
