A regal sight will greet revellers at Marlow’s biggest summer party this year as the Queen’s barge parades along the River Thames.

Races at this year’s Marlow Town Regatta will be halted as the Gloriana joins a flotilla of 200 craft celebrating 800 years since the sealing of the Magna Carta.

The spectacle will cruise along the Thames on June 13 and 14, starting from Hurley and making its way through Marlow, Cookham and Bourne End before heading on to Runnymede.

The Gloriana – the row barge which led The Queen’s river procession for her diamond jubilee in 2012 – will be the jewel in a flotilla of craft of all shapes and sizes.

Thousands of visitors and residents are expected to flock to the riverside to view the procession, with partygoers at Marlow Town Regatta given a front row seat.

It is not yet known if the Queen will be on board the barge as it makes its way towards Runnymede, where the famous document was signed by King John in 1215.

A copy of the Magna Carta will be transported downstream, along with 'King John' and 'barons', and playlets will be acted out at seven locations along the route, telling the story of the writing of the document.

It is being organised by the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead along with Thames Alive, the group which masterminded the manpowered squadron of the Queen's Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant in 2012.

Peter Warwick, chairman of Thames Alive, said: "It is an honour to be invited to organise another memorable traditional boating event on the River Thames which will hopefully be another small piece of history."
