One of the world’s finest classical musicians is set to take the audience on a historical and musical journey at the Wycombe Swan next week.

Julian Lloyd Webber will present a unique insight into his extraordinary life, with music performed by himself, his wife and fellow cellist Jiaxin Lloyd Webber, together with pianist Pam Chowhan.

The expert cellist and conductor is part of one of the most influential musical dynasties of modern times – his older brother is composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and his father is organist and conductor William Lloyd Webber.

Julian will recount stories and anecdotes of touring, recording sessions, concerts and TV shows to link with a new presentation of rare video footage of him talking and performing with the likes of Nigel Kennedy, Elton John, Katherine Jenkins, Tim Rice, Yehudi Menhuin, Joaquin Rodrigo, Cleo Laine, Stephane Grappelli and many others.

The show will see works performed from Faure's Elegy, Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Music of the Night, Rachmaninov's Cello Sonata through to composers William Lloyd Webber, Frank Bridge, JS Bach and Philip Glass.

With a wealth of fascinating stories from his time as a classical music performer, Julian is certain the audience will have an enriching evening.

“We’ve done a huge amount of research and all the material has been carefully chosen. It’s going to a fantastic fun-packed evening.

“I think it’s an introduction to music and I really hope people bring their children along because there is something for the whole family.

“You don’t see classical music on television which is unfortunate, but this is a wonderful evening with fascinating music. I hope there will be a lot of laughter and fun.”

There will also be a question and answer session, for keen music fans to get to know the musician in more detail.

“The Q&A is the unpredictable part. I used to get really nervous doing it because you never know what people might ask, but it has mostly been interesting questions about music, luckily and it’s been incredibly fun so far.”

Julian is also keen to get younger generations involved in the classical music scene, and he is encouraging people to come along with a cello of their own so they can join him on stage.

“We want someone to come with a cello, maybe a young player, who can join us on stage for a sort of masterclass.

Coming from such a musical family, it’s not hard to see why Julian went into the music business.

“I started playing when I was really young, around four years old but it wasn’t until I was around 12 or 13 that I decided that was what I wanted to do and then I started working really hard.”

Julian’s daughter Jasmine Orienta, who will be four this year, is already showing signs of following in her musical parents’ footsteps.

“She would be encouraged to do whatever she wants to do with her life, but even at her age, I notice she likes to listen to music and she loves shows and loves musicals. She dances around to them, so she’s definitely got that side to her.”
