A road in Chalfont St Giles remains closed after a “terrifying” blaze and series of explosions near the village.

Bowstridge Lane is still shut both ways after a 100-metre exclusion zone was setup yesterday in a bid to prevent injury to neighbours following the explosion of a number of potentially deadly gas canisters.

At its peak on Wednesday night, there were six fire engines, a turntable ladder, a water tanker and 35 firefighters and officers at the light industrial area.

The fire is believed to have started at about 9.30pm at a property opposite Windmill Farm and about six people had to be evacuated from nearby cottages.

The road is still closed between High Street and Narcot Lane. It is not know when the route will reopen.
