Improving the town's cycle network, scrapping tuition fees and investing in renewable energy are among The Green Party candidate's pledges this General Election.

Jem Bailey referred to the closure of Wycombe's A&E as a “disgrace” and said his party is committed to supporting whistle-blowers and funding mental health services.

What you can expect if you vote Green:

1. Transport:

  • This is a key issue to Wycombe and we want to reduce congestion and increase the availability and use of public transport.
  • We would greatly expand and improve the whole cycling network, both on-road and separated from road and traffic.
  • We want a more extensive, cheaper, better coordinated rail service. Only the Green Party would bring the railways back into public hands. Caroline Lucas is seeking to make this law and Jem Bailey would work closely with her to make this happen should he be elected.
  • As well as facilitating movement of people and goods from one place to another, our policies aim to reduce the need to travel.
  • To facilitate this we want to see high-speed broadband in all our villages as well as the town centre.

2. Health and care:

  • The closure of our A&E department at Wycombe Hospital was a disgrace.
  • We will act to remove the pressures places on GP practices by the recent re-organisations.
  • The Green Party will work with professionals, patients and unions to improve the NHS.
  • We will create an independent body to support and protect whistle-blowers or truth tellers, who are vital to preventing crises such as those that occurred at the Mid-Staffordshire HS Trust.
  • The Green Party is committed to fully funded mental health services.

    3. Education:
    Bucks Free Press:
  • A free education is a right and Wycombe’s schools rightly see themselves as being at the heart of the communities whose children they educate.
  • The Green Party would return academic and free schools to local democratic control and resist both further privatisation and the sale of playing fields.
  • Nationally we would scrap tuition fees entirely.

4. Economy:

  • We support thriving small and local business, which preserve the character of the town. We are opposed to turning Wycombe into a clone town.

5. Housing:

  • Wycombe needs more affordable housing, including council owned housing.
  • The Green Party opposes any further privatisation of council houses.
  • A Green Party MP for Wycombe would work in Westminster to make the planning environment more favourable to ordinary citizens and less favourable to developers.

5. Environment:

  • We will make major investment in energy efficiency and the renewable energy industry.
