Travellers who were squatting at the High Wycombe Park and Ride site in Cressex for almost a week are said to have caused “chaos” and significantly disrupted the bus service.

The group moved onto the land on Friday and only left this morning after police helped issue an eviction notice on behalf of Wycombe District Council.

Transport for Buckinghamshire says the travellers disrupted the regular service with drivers not being able to enter the site and use the normal bus route.

And, WDC councillor for Booker and Cressex, Brian Pierce, said “it was quite chaotic, with bus passengers having to be dropped off on the main road”.

TfB spokesman Dan Elworthy said: “The travellers who were ‘squatting’ on the Park & Ride site in Cressex, Wycombe, has disrupted the park and ride service since Friday.

“The bus company did their best but were not able to enter the P&R site to serve the usual bus stop and used the nearest alternative. Very few car drivers were able to use the site either.

“WDC served eviction notices and the Travellers should have moved on by 08:00 this morning. We expect things back to normal later today or tomorrow at the latest.”

Last year, police had to move a group of travellers away from the Cressex and Booker areas after they settled on land outside the Johnson and Johnson business in Holmers Farm Way before moving to Booker Common the same day.

There is nothing to suggest the two incidents are linked.
