Residents say there are fed up of seeing huge lorries reversing up their narrow village lane after taking the wrong turning signalled by their sat-navs.

Church Road in Little Marlow is often mistakenly used by truck drivers heading to the Thames Water sewage treatment site nearby, with villager Martin Braint saying larger vehicles often get stuck.

He said he is sick of the site of large lorries and trailers on along the idyllic stretch, and warns someone could be seriously hurt if the problem is not resolved.

Mr Braint said: "There needs to be a sign to stop traffic coming down there, it’s been going on for years. There is a sign but it’s 60 metres away.

"The problem is a lot of drivers come from the A404 and their sat-navs tell them to turn down Church Road even though it is not the right route.

"There are a lot of children living down that road. Eventually there will be a serious issue, it’s not good for the village and it happens all the time."

As a major facility dealing all of the sewage from the Marlow, Bourne End and High Wycombe areas, the works near the river in Little Marlow attract a large volume of site traffic.

Thames Water, which runs the facility, says it is aware of the problem and will take action to prevent lorries blindly following directions.

Spokesman Becky Trotman said: "We’re sorry for any disturbance the lorries are causing.

"We’ve reminded all our drivers and contractors of the correct route to take and have also met with a representative of the parish council to discuss better signage."

Little Marlow parish councillor Philip Emmett, who sits on the liaison group with Thames Water, says the matter of signage was brought up at the last meeting and will now be brought to the parish council.

He said Thames Water have offered to pay for any signs, which must first be cleared through Transport for Buckinghamshire.

But he added that progress with matters between the village and Thames Water are often "a long process".
