Celebrity couple Vernon Kay and Tess Daly made their home in South Buckinghamshire more than 10 years ago to get away from the hustle and bustle of London, and with their children enjoying all of the counties attractions it does not look like they will be leaving anytime soon.

The former Radio 1 DJ and Family Fortunes presenter, originally from Bolton, appreciates the “greater sense of community” in his adopted home – a location he would prefer to keep private – and says he likes the fact he knows the names of the postman, laundrette and nearby coffee shop staff.

Speaking to the Bucks Free Press at a promotional golf event ahead of the Ladies European Masters in Denham, he said he has not regretted the move and that they regularly visit the likes of Odds Farm Park and Bekonscot Model Village to keep his children entertained.

The family appear to have fully embraced Bucks life, as Vernon even admits he reads the Free Press weekly to keep updated on all the issues in the area.

He said: “I’ve lived in Buckinghamshire for 11 years. When our first was born we wanted to move somewhere with a greater sense of community.

“Tess and I are both from up north and London is a bit in your face, a bit hustle and bustle, and I think everyone kind of plays for themselves in London.

“Where as you come out here and I know the name of my postman, the lady in the Post Office, laundrette, Costa Coffee, all of those sort of places where you just hang out and can strike up a conversation.

“There’s a lot to do here and there’s lots to do for the kids as well, and that’s nice that you can get to see the local area with your kids.

“We are always down at the theme parks that are bordering Buckinghamshire and there are lots of open fields; horse riding – I’m not into horse riding myself – but the girls like horses and ponies.

“And, there are loads of animals around, loads of farms and stuff. We like Odds Farm – Jesus I should have shares in Odds Farm – and Bekonscot.

“I’m sick of that now though to be honest with you, we go about a dozen times a year. I need a plaque on a bench, that’s what I need at Bekonscot, I’ve been that many times.

“But it’s good; it’s just a great place to live. It’s got a good chippy and a good pub, that’s it really.”

Having presented numerous television shows over the years, Vernon is currently working on a project with a South London American Football team.

He said: “We take young gentleman and we teach them, we try and mirror the stuff what they get up to on the streets in sport, but within the rules – and that’s important as well.

“We just had a guy signed by the Dallas Cowboys and I think that was a good moment for all of the team.”

Talking about his weekly read of the Free Press he said it would be ignorant to ignore local concerns and described himself as a “big fan” of the greenbelt and added that he continues to follow the “massive issue” of the fight against HS2 very closely.

Asked if the Free Press was his favourite publication, he said “if I was to choose one to wrap up my fish and chips it would be that one”.
