Rowers from Marlow Rowing Club were given the honour of guiding the Queen’s barge through Marlow as they took a leg of its two-day journey along the Thames this weekend.

Paralympic gold medallist Naomi Riches was among the nine crew members from the club as they took the Gloriana from Hurley as far as Marlow lock as part of the Magna Carta celebrations.

MRC chairman Peter Hunt, relieved his squad delivered the Queen’s £1.5million craft safely without incident, said: “It was a great honour for our members to be allowed to row the Queens Royal Barge and she looked wonderful with all the flags and regalia displayed.

“It was quite a sight for the regatta subscribers to take in just after the regatta opening ceremony.

“Even though she passed down the regatta course there was hardly a break in the racing. Thanks to the regatta race controller and Thames Alive the flotilla organiser, everything went according to plan.”

The Marlow crew were Naomi Riches, Jordan Beecher, Lorna Loretto, Kate Curtis, Helen Essa, John Kirtland, Ted Treasure and Ruth Naylor.
