An “exceptional” south Buckinghamshire headmaster is to step down next summer after being appointed the role of Chief Master at one of the leading independent boy’s schools in the country, writes Jasmine Rapson.

Dr Mark Fenton will leave his post as headmaster of Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, in Chesham Road, Amersham in the summer of 2016 after 15 years in the role.

Dr Fenton will be moving to Birmingham where he has been appointed the prestigious role of Chief Master at King Edward’s School.

Chairman of governor’s at Dr Challoner’s Grammar School, Jane Penton said “I am absolutely delighted for Dr Fenton and wish him every success in his appointment to such a significant role.

“He has been an exceptional head for Dr Challoner’s Grammar School and the school has benefited enormously under his leadership. He will leave a magnificent legacy.”

As well as Chief Master, he has also been appointed headmaster of the King Edward’s foundation in the city, in which he will act as a representative for all eight schools of the foundation on its main board, with a particular focus on the development of policy.

The foundation includes five grammar schools, its sponsored academy, an independent girl’s school and King Edward’s itself.
