The family of Marlow teenager James Fifield who died after a quadbike crash in Greece have commemorated the one year anniversary of his death with a “global celebration” and a special football tournament.

Relatives and friends met on Saturday for the second James Fifield Memorial Cup, in a bid to raise money for Kids in Sport, a charity close to the 18-year-old's heart.

One year on after the former Wye Valley School pupil was tragically hit by a drunk driver while on holiday celebrating the end of his A-Levels with friends on July 5, 2014, his mother says every day is tough but it feels like they have the support of the world.

Claire Fifield-Moore, said: “For James’ anniversary on the July 5, I contacted all my Facebook friends and family all around the world to remember James with us.

“We had candles lit in France, Las Vegas and Thailand, balloons released in New Zealand, Singapore, London and all over Britain.

“Everyone took photos and sent them to me for James’ memory box – the response and love was breathtaking. What a way to remember James... a global celebration of his life.”

As a teenager James had worked with the charity Kids for Sport and at Stoke Mandeville Hospital and at the weekend those who knew him joined in to raise money for the charity in his name.

As a keen footballer from a young age, James played for Hughenden FC and Flackwell Heath FC.

Four teams took part in the special tournament, comprising friends, family and former teammates.

They held a one minute’s applause before the start of the competition.

To mark the one-year anniversary last Sunday, family joined together in Marlow’s Gossmore Recreation Ground to celebrate his life and release red balloons – a touching reminder of his love for Liverpool FC.

Mrs Fifield-Moore said: “It was tough in the morning, but we were kept busy organising different things and we went up to the cemetery and people had left some really lovely things there.

“It was a lovely day but at the same time very hard too.”

As well as the football tournament, there was also entertainment and activities on offer for all involved, including a bouncy castle, games and a raffle.
