Beer flowed freely in the sunshine this weekend as more than 5,000 people flocked to help a Marlow brewery raise £58,000 for charity.

Rebellion Brewery’s Open Weekend sees the successful beer producer throw open its doors every two years for a two-day festival of drinking, music and eating.

Organisers say 5,500 people came to the Marlow Bottom business over two days, helping the team beat 2013’s total and raise the huge sum, which will be donated to Scannappeal.

And 75 staff and helpers, many of whom donated their wages to the cause, were on hand to give out glasses of beer provided for free by the brewery all weekend.

Rebellion’s Stuart Sutherland said: “Yet again a great success. And big thanks to all the staff who worked and all those who attended our biennial Open Weekend.

“This year we’ve raised an incredible £58,000 for Scannappeal beating the 2013 wekend’s total of £52,000.

“Big thanks to all the staff of Scannappeal who helped, and thanks to the 5 bands for their fantastic performances and effort. They give their time for free.”

During the two-day celebration, groups Honey Ryder, Chiltern Concert Band, Straight Eight, Reeve and Soundforce took to the specially made stage in the brewery’s courtyard.

Mr Sutherland also thanked Bucks New University for supplying and manning the music equipment all weekend.

The community-minded brewery has now raised £192,000 in total for the charity.

And managers were awarded a special recognition award by Buckinghamshire Fire and Rescue for their flexibility in allowing on-call firefighter and employee Sam Gost time off to help with the flood relief effort last year.
