Supermarket customers will be asked to make their money count and support a High Wycombe charity this year.

At a launch event this weekend, Sainsbury’s in Oxford Road will unveil their new Local Charity of the Year, selected by shoppers in the town.

This year they will be supporting RobsARTTT which was started eight years ago by a terminally ill teenager who passed away in 2007.

Rob Holland, a 15-year-old student at Holmer Green Senior School, launched the charity after he was diagnosed with a rare teenage tumour, Desmoplastic Small Round Cell Tumour (DSCRT).

Rob’s mum, Amanda Dunkerton, said: “The Local Charity of the Year scheme has been successful for so many charities; we can’t wait to get started.

“We’re hoping the partnership will help raise awareness of our cause to the store’s customers and will help us develop the important research needed to fight DSCRT.”

Relatives and other representatives from the charity will join Sainsbury’s colleagues over the weekend to fundraise by selling RobsARTTT merchandise and bag packing for customers.

Vicky Hindley, store manager at Sainsbury’s High Wycombe, added: “We’re really looking forward to launching our partnership with RobsARTTT this weekend. We had a fantastic response from our customers this year during the voting period.”

Since being formed the charity has raised more than £190,000.

The charity scheme is now in its seventh year and has raised over £7 million to support local charities since 2009.
