A security guard suffered head injuries after a knife attack in High Wycombe’s Eden Shopping Centre today.

UPDATE: 38-year-old man charged in connection with incident.

Two men have been arrested following the incident outside Tesco which left two security guards injured.

A section of the walkway outside the store was cordoned off as detectives carried out an investigation, but it has since been re-opened.

Thames Valley Police say that the two Eden Shopping Centre employees were assaulted by a man after a person was detained on suspicion of shoplifting from Tesco.

Shortly after 1.30pm the suspected shoplifter was detained and a second man later joined him at the store and they attempted to leave, officers have confirmed.

The two guards were then assaulted by a man. One victim sustained minor head injuries caused by a knife.

His injuries are not life-threatening and he is currently attending hospital.

The second victim sustained minor injuries and was initially treated at the scene and is attending hospital as a precaution.

Officers are currently on the scene making enquiries in relation to the incident. A knife has been recovered.

Investigating officer Insp Simone Marples, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “The shop was very busy at the time of the incident and I would like to speak to anyone who saw what happened or anyone with any information which could assist with our enquiries.

“Officers are investigating the circumstances and are present in the area. If anyone has any concerns please contact your local neighbourhood team by calling 101.”
