Two village pubs did battle as a Marlow village favourite returned over the bank holiday weekend.

Villagers flocked to the attractions on offer at Little Marlow’s Village Fete, held on the recreation ground on Monday.

An improvement on last year’s torrential downpours, the weather held out long enough for the biggest draw of the day which saw the Queen’s Head take on the King’s Head in a tug-of-war competition.

But despite the fierce rivalry, neither set of regulars could settle the score, with the bout ending in a hard-fought draw.

Parish council chairman Valerie Brownridge said: “In spite of the weather, which admittedly was better than last year, we had a great turn-out. We made over £4000 which we were absolutely delighted about.

“The highlight of the day was the Tug of War, which will now be a regular fixture in our programme. We also had a kids tug of war which went down really well with everyone and was great fun.”

Money raised at the family say out goes to good causes and organisations in the area.
