The father of a man who died of stab wounds in High Wycombe last month has paid tribute to his “caring, loving” son and thanked the community for their support.

Jimmy Gillespie said he and his son, who was married with two young children, shared a “strong bond” and that he would be badly missed.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics, Mr Gillespie died in the town centre on Saturday, August 22, near All Saints Church.

And his father said he does not want his son’s life to be in vain, pledging to set up a campaigning group in his memory.

He said: "Lee's family and I would like to thank the Wycombe community for their support throughout this difficult time in our lives.

“I think it's fair to say that Lee was a better man than me. He was a kind, caring, loving, understanding and very helpful man.

“My son and I shared a strong bond and we loved being together. He did not deserve to die the way he did.

“I don't want my son's death to be in vain. I want Lee to be remembered for his beautiful life not how it was tragically ended. “The public support that my family and I have been shown is overwhelming and I would like to thank them for that.

“A site called SOSAD, which means save our sons and daughters, will be set up to be an organisation to campaign against knife crime.”

Mr Gillespie’s father has also thanked the people of High Wycombe for their reaction to his son’s tragic death.

And he has called for further calm and for anyone with information to contact police.

He said: “I would like to thank the public for remaining calm and I would ask that they continue to do so.

“This is not a time for rumours to be spread. If anyone has any information please pass onto the police investigation team so they can continue to do their work.”
