A school in Great Kingshill was unable to fully open at the beginning of the new school term because unfinished building work meant it was not safe for pupils.
Great Kingshill Church of England Combined School was due to open fully on September 3 but extensive building, pipework, water and electricity works had not been completed in time.
Reception, year 1 and year 6 pupils could return to school as normal, but years 2, 3, 4 and 5 will not return until Monday, September 7.
In a letter posted to parents online, headteacher Joanne Garlick said it was ‘very disappointing’ but there was no alternative.
She said: “Although the contractors have worked hard to catch up, the site is not yet safe for all our pupils to return. Particularly the fact there are many pipes in all areas of the School that have not yet been boxed in and flooring and walls which have deep holes from the pipework.
“These exposed areas therefore pose a Health and Safety risk where children are concerned. In addition, there is still scaffolding and trenches around the exterior of the school.
“It is very disappointing that this needs to happen, but unfortunately there is no alternative.
"I hope that you will support the School at this difficult time and appreciate what has been done to ensure that some of our pupils can return as planned and that the rest are only disrupted for two days.”
