Police officers across the Thames Valley will be running activities throughout the week in support of National Hate Crime Awareness Week.

The scheme, which was launched on Saturday, will see neighbourhood teams engaging with the community to highlight the need for a better understanding of hate crimes and how victims can seek support.

Thames Valley Police has said that incidents of hate crime still go unreported, and they are seeking to reassure the public that those who report a crime will be taken seriously.

Chief Constable Francis Habgood said: “Officers and staff work on a daily basis to support those who are vulnerable in our communities.”

“This week of focussed action will help us drive home the message that hate crime in any form is not acceptable and we want you to have confidence in coming forward if you have been a victim.”

“We all stand together to support a positive change in attitude towards discrimination in its negative form.”
