A Marlow teenager has scooped the prestigious Sir Steve Redgrave sports bursary following his summer of triathlon success.

Chairman of WDC, Cllr Ian McEnnis was joined by Olympic medallist, Sarah Winckless to present over £1000 to 16-year-old Seb Garry at Court Gardens House in Marlow on October 7.

The young triathlete came 5th in the under 20's World Triathlon Sprint race in August, despite leaving the water in 55th place.

Cllr Ian McEnnis, Chairman of Wycombe District Council, said: "We’ve got a large pool of sporting talent in the district and the Sir Steve Redgrave bursary candidates inspire others to keep pushing themselves to fulfil their potential.

Wycombe District Council set up the bursary in 2001 and named it after Sir Steve Redgrave, one the district's residents, in recognition of his inspirational fifth Olympic gold medal.

Twenty one other talented hopefuls were the recipients of grants of up to £200 as a reward for their sporting success.
