The Red Hat Society based in St Albans is hosting its parade this month.

The parade is part of the British Red Hat Society's National Convention and will start outside the Alban Arena at 11am on October 31.

More than 200 women from across the UK are expected to join the parade, which celebrates life, having fun and friendship.

The Red Hat Society is an international group for women over 50 and was set up by an American woman, inspired by the Jenny Joseph poem The Warning.

Chair of the St Albans group, known as Herts Fiery Fascinators, Margaret Johnstone, will be leading the procession and will finish at Sopwell House.

She said: "Many ladies become isolated through life changes and families moving away.

"By joining the red hatters it is possible to have a new lease of life.

"Each year there is national convention and it's all about coming together and having fun."
