Frustrated gym goers are at their ‘wits end’, saying management at their leisure centre opted to move from an adult only club to a family facility without proper consultation.

David Lloyd, which is located in Wooburn Green, has recently invested £3.2 million in to revamping their services, which includes allowing children in to the gym.

However long standing members of the luxurious club - which can cost up to £75 a month - are unhappy about the developments, and said they were not consulted before the decision was made.

Tim Seabrook, who has used the gym twice a week for around ten years said the introduction of children will disturb the ‘peace and quiet’ of the centre.

He said: “I have not received any formal consultation over the proposed and now agreed changes to the gym to facilitate any type of input / expression of opinion.

“Although a family man myself with a young child, appreciate the adult only environment to exercise and use the spa facilities in peace and quiet.

“It makes no sense to me to convert this to a family gym when another David Lloyd family gym is already available 20 mins down the road in maidenhead.”

Members also criticised the renaming of the gym to David Lloyd Beaconsfield to ‘accurately mirror its location’, despite it being situated on Glory Mill Lane, in Wooburn Green.

And Trisha Barker, from Beaconsfield, who has also been using the facility for around 10 years said: “What we say wouldn’t make any difference, they have already made their minds up. It’s all about profit for them after all.

“They attempted to let children in over 10 years ago when it was Odyssey. It did not work then so why would it work now?”

However despite these accusations, David Lloyd are adamant that their members were consulted.

A spokesperson for the company said: “David Lloyd Beaconsfield is currently the only adult-only facility across all the clubs.

“In response to feedback from members both in person and via comments from our member surveys in Beaconsfield, we have made the decision to provide full family facilities to reflect our brand proposition.

“Dedicated adult-only areas will remain – with an adults-only lounge in the DLicious café bar suitable to relax or use as a business hub.”
