Teachers and pupils at a school in Gerrards Cross are supporting Movember by growing or buying moustaches in aid of charity.

For the second year, boys and staff at Thorpe House School, in Oval Way, are raising money for the month long charity event, which aims to raise awareness of male specific health problems like testicular cancer, prostate cancer and mental health issues.

Four members of staff, called the ‘Thorpe Mo Bros’ are growing moustaches to raise money for the Movember Foundation and last week, boys were allowed to buy their own moustaches for £1 and wear them during the school day.

Everyone from nursery to the kitchen staff took part and more than £130 was raised from moustache sales.

Head teacher and Thorpe Mo Bro Terence Ayres said: “I’m really excited to be taking part in Movember again because as the Headmaster of an all boys’ school I know that boys and teenagers find it incredibly difficult to talk about men's health problems.

“Movember isn’t just a fundraising exercise; it also gives us the opportunity to educate our pupils about the potential health issues that they could face one day and in doing so, highlight that they shouldn't feel too embarrassed to talk about them.”
