CHRISTMAS truly arrives in High Barnet on Sunday, December 6 as the tenth annual fayre takes over the streets.

It's expected that more than 20,000 people will flock to the town centre on the day to enjoy all the activities on offer and to get into the festive spirit.

The fun will kick off with a Christmas parade and there will be a children’s show Home For Christmas at The Bull Theatre. Get in the Strictly mood with dancing in the streets, or enjoy sounds from Barnet Community Radio, classical music in St John’s Church, and live gigs in the pubs.

Children will love watching Punch and Judy, popping into Santa’s post office in The Spires and visiting Mannings funfair. For everyone's entertainment too there will be a street magician, stilt walkers and a craft fair in Church House as well as vintage cars to admire.

The high street and Barnet College Forecourt will have many stalls to browse and food and drink to enjoy.

Susi Earnshaw, chair of the organising committee, says: "The event is about communities coming together to celebrate what we offer each other and to raise the awareness of local charities at this special time of the year.

"Thousands of pounds have been raised for local charities at this event over the past years."

While Barnet Museum has been nominated as the main charity for fundraising this year, a Christmas bazaar will be held in Wesley Hall to collect money for refugees.

Barnet's huge Christmas tree has been donated by Nick Staton of Staton's estate agents and the lights will be officially switched on at 3.30pm on Thursday, November 26.

So go along and enjoy getting into the Christmas mood.

Children's show

All ages can join in the songs and enjoy the wonderful atmosphere as the Susi Earnshaw Theatre School brings the story to the stage of what happens to Dorothy after she is sent home from Oz - things don't go to plan. Ansd as an extra treat all children can go on stage with the characters at the end of the show and families can take photos.
