Beaconsfield schoolgirls are celebrating top wins in netball this month after qualifying for the regional round of a major tournament.

Three teams of girls from Beaconsfield High School battled heavy rain and tough competition from other schools to win every match in the county round of the National Schools competition, leading them to qualify for the regional round of the netball tournament.

The teams have already had a successful run this year, which saw Beaconsfield High School’s U19 and U16 teams qualify for national finals, with the U16 winning a bronze medal and the ‘Best Defence’ trophy.

The U12 team also reached the quarter finals and U13 the finals of the School Sport Magazine National Cup.

Beaconsfield High netballers are getting a major boost, with a £30,000 investment to resurface the three floodlit outdoor courts.

Former sponsors of the England netball team, Zeo, made a donation to the school for its netball achievements, with more funds raised by other companies and the Friends of Beaconsfield High.

The courts will also be available to the community for hire.

Head teacher, Rachel Smith, said the girls should be ‘very proud’ of their netball achievements.

She said: “Their performance underpins the great sporting legacy of Beaconsfield High School. As well as investing in the pastoral, creative and academic development of our girls, we strongly believe in the importance of a broad spectrum of sport being played at all levels.

“Under Ms Priestley, our dedicated Head of PE, we are seeing continued high national and regional performances in netball, hockey, gymnastics, swimming and athletics.

“With our intake of girls increasing in September 2016, Beaconsfield High School will have an additional 30 spaces for qualifying girls, meaning that 180 year 7 students will have the benefit of the new netball facilities and the coaching and traditions of netballing and sporting excellence.”
