A train company that was criticised by commuters after it introduced a new timetable will add extra capacity to trains when it brings in another new timetable next month.

Angry commuters told the Bucks Free Press that Chiltern Railways’ rush hour trains had been overcrowded since the new timetable was put in place on October 25.

Chiltern Railways, who apologised last week for ‘falling short’ of their usual standards since the new timetable was brought in, has now attempted to rectify issues raised with an amended timetable for the winter season – which includes adding a nine-carriage train for the first time ever.

From High Wycombe to London, the 0625 will be lengthened from two to three carriages, the 0655 from six to seven and the 0726 will depart two minutes earlier with two extra carriages.

An additional train to Marylebone will also be departing at 9am.

In the evening, the 1721 and the 1750 from Marylebone have also been increased to seven carriages.

From Beaconsfield, the 0703 will be lengthened from six to seven carriages and an additional nine carriage train to Marylebone leaving at 0730 will be running – the longest train they have ever run.

The 0743 is to be replaced by another train at 0730, which aims to provide more capacity and a more regular pattern of 0703-0720-0730-0751.

From Gerrards Cross, the 0637 will have an extra carriage and the 0749 will have an altered stopping pattern before calling at the station, which Chiltern Rail hope will create more capacity for commuters at Gerrards Cross.

A spokesman for the company said: “Chiltern Railways winter timetable starts on 13 December and customers are advised to check their journeys before travelling.

“After taking on board feedback from customers and passenger counts, Chiltern Railways has added targeted capacity into the December 2015 – May 2016 timetable, providing passengers from High Wycombe, Beaconsfield and Gerrards trains with improvements.

“The new iteration reflects the end of the leaf-fall period across the route excepting the Aylesbury via Amersham line where leaf-fall continues until December 23.”
