The ex-mayor of Marlow, Cllr Suzanne Brown, joined over 20 fundraisers to sleep rough on Friday night for a Wycombe homeless charity.

The 22 volunteers including Rev Dave Bull of All Saints Church, made their own beds out of cardboard boxes and camped out in the church courtyard on The Causeway in MAarlow to raise cash and awareness for Wycombe Homeless Connection.

The sleep out was a county wide project which saw almost 100 people across south Bucks wrap up warm and take part for the charity which has so far raised over £30,000 for the charity.

Together with Beaconsfield, Marlow’s involvement saw the birth of the ‘3 spire challenge’ when the two parish churches pledged to take part to show solidarity after hearing about the High Wycombe event.

Rev Dave Bull said: “It was a very cold and uncomfortable night. Sleeping in a cardboard box has reminded me how much I take for granted.

“Approaching Christmas it has also reminded me that Jesus spent his first night sleeping rough in a manger, which tells us something about what God is like.

“Marlow is a beautiful place to live, but it can become a bubble and this is a great way of remembering what real life is like for so many people, as well as raising some money to help them."

Volunteer for WHC, Heather Morley said: “Wycombe Homeless Connection is Marlow’s closest homeless charity and winter night shelter, and our advice and support centre in Castle Street is open every weekday morning. "
