Choppy seas and wild weather couldn’t dampen spirits as Bucks Free Press staff past and present gathered for an intimate wedding in a picturesque Devon beauty spot this month.

BFP content editor Pete Grant and girlfriend Tori Bennett tied the knot in the idyllic port town of Dartmouth – directly over the river Dart from where her grandfather and BFP typesetter of over 30 years Bill Norton and his wife Margaret celebrated their wedding 58 years before.

The happy couple celebrated their love and Devon roots on November 14, with 60 guests from as far away as Canada joining for the happy day.

But the best man’s chair remained empty on the day, with Pete’s new nephew Woody keeping brother James and wife Lily waiting 200 miles away in Marlow at almost two weeks overdue.

Pete said: “It was touch and go whether James and Lils would make it, and in the end Woody proved somewhat of a reluctant arrival, but we’re over the moon for them.

“My friend Danny Sherwood did a fantastic job standing in, Tori and I had the most fantastic day imaginable. It meant a lot to us to get married in Dartmouth - it’s a special place for us and for Tori’s family. It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t be happier.”

Tori, whose father Colin Bennett gave her away, thanked maid of honour Jen Nyman for her support throughout the special day.

The ceremony took place in the Royal Castle Hotel, overlooking Dartmouth harbour where Storm Barney was giving his all to the south coast.

The party moved to Café Alf Resco – a favourite haunt of the new Mr and Mrs Grant – which played host to a twinkling candlelit celebration through the night.

And absent best man James was able to make an appearance alongside sidekick Danny when he was projected via video to co-present the best man’s speech.
