Outspoken young people across south Bucks showcased their public speaking skills at a county wide competition in Marlow last week.

Youth Speaks, organised by the Rotary Club of Marlow, saw students from across the county gather in Liston Hall and attempted to impress judges with heartfelt speeches on Thursday, January 28 in a bid to land a spot in the next round of the competition.

The teams – aged 12 to 17 – were hand picked by their schools after taking part in public speaking lessons.

The winners in the senior category; India Fox, Sammy Martin and Iona Rowan from Wycombe Abbey, wowed judges with their speech ‘First World Problems.’

And Ted Aplin, William Peters and Miles Edwards won the audience over with a talk on selfies – ‘Are you the Selfiest of Them All’ landing themselves the top spot in the intermediate category.

Rotarian, Lance slater said: “It was a very rewarding event. To see these youngsters work so hard is great as they don’t always have the best of press.

“It was really difficult to choose a winner as everyone was so good but it had to be done.”

The winners will now prepare for the next stage in the competition which will take place at 7pm on Thursday, March 3 at Liston Hall.
