A man who stole almost £1,000 worth of alcohol during a series of supermarket thefts has been jailed and ordered to pay back £80.

Over four months last year, High Wycombe man Jason Barnes targeted supermarkets and a petrol station across south Bucks, taking drink valued at £922.64.

The Roberts Road resident admitted his guilt at High Wycombe Magistrates Court last week and has been jailed for 14 weeks.

He was sentenced an additional one week in prison for failing to surrender at court for an earlier hearing and ordered to pay an £80 victim surcharge.

On four occasions in August and September, the 27-year-old stole up to £547 of goods from Co-Op in Great Missenden.

Earlier in 2015, Barnes took more than £100 worth of alcohol from Tesco in Packhorse Road, Gerrards Cross, Sainsbury’s in Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, and Bourne End Service Station in The Parade.
