A drive-through Costa Coffee could be opened in High Wycombe.

The coffee chain has applied to Wycombe District Council for permission to build a new shop on the grounds of Homebase car park, in London Road.

Despite receiving a handful of complaints from nearby residents, planning officers have recommended that the council gives Costa the green light to open.

However, the final decision will not be made until councillors meet on Wednesday.

The applicants are seeking permission to build a single storey drive-through pod, including a coffee shop and parking, at the western end of the large Homebase car park, near where a car cleaning company is based.

As part of the plans to open a coffee shop, the applicant states they hope to be open from 6am to 11pm, seven days a week.

The Homebase store on the same site currently operates with opening hours of 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday, and from 11am to 4pm on Sundays.

Objecting to the plans, Cllr Marten Clarke, said: “The basis of the application is that the site is an extant retail park. This is fallacious as the site is solely for the use of Homebase.

“The proposal for a Costa Coffee is an out of town development.”

A one-way system to navigate the drive-through has been included in the proposed design.
