Volunteers from a group providing print news from the Bucks Free Press to the blind and visually impaired met for a special lunch this month to wave goodbye to two stalwart members.

Wycombe Talking Newspapers met on March 8 to bid farewell to Ray and Wendy Moorin, who had both been pivotal members of the organisation.

Ray steps down after having been chairman of the group for 20 years, and was assisted during that time by his wife who acted as secretary.

Supporter Sue Seward said: “The event was to say ‘thank you’ for the great level of commitment Ray and Wendy had given to the group in overseeing the many aspects of the work in which the organization has to engage.

“This includes visiting the recipients of the newspaper and installing the equipment to enable them to hear the recordings to managing the studio and volunteers.”

Ray and Wendy were presented with a voucher to spend on their new home and a bouquet of flowers.

Wycombe Talking Newspaper is a wholly voluntary charitable organization and relies on fundraising to cover all its costs.

The free service delivers news from the areas of High Wycombe, Marlow, and Princes Risborough, whose problems with sight affect their ability to keep up with the news. The talking Newspaper is issued weekly and is based largely on an edited version of the Bucks Free Press. It is recorded on Fridays, the day the BFP is published, copied and posted on Saturday by the Royal Mail “Articles for the Blind” scheme, normally delivered on the following Monday or Tuesday.

The latest edition is also available on this website on the same Saturday.
