A community radio station based in High Wycombe has been given a full time licence to be on the airwaves for the next five years.

The not-for-profit Wycombe Sound radio station has been granted the licence by Ofcom after three short stints over the last few years.

Wycombe Sound will broadcast interviews, features, phone-ins and music, with residents able to contribute to shows.

Programme director and presenter, Philippa Sawyer, said: "It's fantastic news, now we can put our plans into action.

“We've come a long way since 2013 and we've been overwhelmed with the support from listeners.

“We have over 70 volunteer broadcasters, technicians and reporters from all walks of life, and we welcome new members to the team.

“There are lots of opportunities to get involved, both in front of and behind the mic."

The Wycombe Sound team are now raising money to buy transmission equipment and hope to be on air in the autumn.
