A High Wycombe grammar school will see two GB athletes open its spring fair this year.
Silver medallist Dr Lena Poulton and GB hockey midfielder Ian Sloan will attend the Royal Grammar School Parents’ Association spring fair on Saturday April 30.
The fair, which is raising money to refurbish the school’s 100-year-old classrooms, will be packed with entertainment, displays from Wycombe Hockey Club and Hearing Dogs for Deaf People, and a host of international food stalls, artisan craft stalls, zorb football and a bungee run for those feeling energetic on the day.
Dr Poulton, whose two sons attend the school, won silver at the World Triathlon Championships in Chicago last year and is a GP in a High Wycombe surgery. She will be opening the fair at 12pm.
Mr Sloan is part of the GB hockey squad and travelled to the World Hockey League finals in India last year. He will be doing the raffle draw at 2:30pm and will also demonstrate his skills with the Wycombe Hockey Club on the school’s pitch.
Rupa Hindocha, chair of the Parents’ Association, said the refurbished classrooms will have leading technology and learning environment to enable students to achieve their full potential.
She said: “We are delighted that Lena and Ian, both outstanding athletes in their fields, are able to join us and support our fundraising.
“We know that children and adults alike will be inspired by them.”
