Wycombe ski slope could finally be replaced after developers announced plans to build 30 homes on the site – more than 10 years after the business was devastated by fire.

The once popular attraction in woodland in Abbey Barn Lane, High Wycombe, was abandoned after a large blaze destroyed the building in 2005.

Bucks Free Press:

Housing developers are now hopeful of building 30 homes on the Wycombe Summit site and replace the dry ski slope with grassland.

The 31 hectare land will only be developed if plans are given the green light by Wycombe District Council.

Bosses at Princes Risborough-based developers Hambledon Land also want to introduce a comprehensive woodland management plan to the Deangarden Wood site.

Mooted plans in the last decade saw one business attempt to revive the old ski centre by opening a SnowDome, including indoor slopes and an ice rink.

However, despite getting planning permission in 2010 there has been no development on the land.

These new plans would see 30 homes, including 11 affordable properties, opened off Abbey Barn Lane.

Bucks Free Press:

This is what the housing development could look like.

Residents have been fearful in recent years of overdevelopment in the Abbey Barn area, with more than 500 homes planned to be built in the lane as part of Wycombe District Council’s Local Plan.

The ski slope property plan would see six two-bed houses, five three-bed houses, four four-bed houses, six five-bed houses and nine two-bed apartments built in the area.

As part of the large development there would be significant landscaping work and the opening of a new public footpath.

Hambledon Land director, Gerald Knight, said: “We are delighted to submit our planning application for Wycombe Summit, following significant and positive engagement with the local community and Wycombe District Council.

“Our proposals will provide substantial local benefit through the regeneration of a site which has remained derelict for a number of years and enable the enhancement of Deangarden Wood through a comprehensive management strategy.

“Our proposals would also ensure the removal of the former ski slope detritus and provide public access to the woodland for the enjoyment of existing and future residents of the immediate area.”

Mr Knight added that he hopes to continue working with residents and the council as the planning application progresses.

The Hambledon Land management strategy has been designed after collaboration with Chiltern Rangers, who manage a number of woodlands on behalf of Wycombe District Council.
