The Marlow Museum celebrated the opening of its summer exhibition last week with members of the British Army - despite fears it would not go ahead due to severe maintenance problems.

The Sir General Higginson exhibition was launched at the Pound Lane museum on Friday, April 29 with members of the Grenadier Guards and town dignitaries.

The exhibition celebrates the life and times of one of Marlow’s most famous residents throughout time – General Sir George Higginson – and details his military career.

A portrait of the general loaned by Wycombe District Council will be featured as well as a number of artefacts from the Grenadier Guards and the MFP columnist Michael Eagleton.

The display will run free of charge throughout the summer on Wednesday afternoons and weekends or visits can be arranged at other times by appointment.

The history centre was saved from closure last months after thousands of pounds were scraped together for urgent repairs.

However more cash is needed to bring it out of the woods volunteers say.
