A “feisty” Hazlemere resident marked her 100th birthday with a family celebration last week.

Irene Chantler, who lives at Hazlemere Lodge Care Home in Barn Lane but is originally from Eastbourne, reached the milestone birthday on Friday, April 29.

She celebrated the special day with her two sons, her daughter and some of her grandchildren, as well as staff at the care home.

The centenarian was also treated to balloons, banners and flowers, as well as a birthday card from the Queen.

Her son, David Chantler, said: “All family that could be there came along for her birthday. My brother travelled down from Huddersfield especially for the day.

“She had two birthday cakes and my daughter, who is a music teacher, gave a concert for all of the residents, playing a selection of music.

“She is very feisty and it was her wish to have the Bucks Free Press come along and photograph her. We think she had a lovely day.”
