A £12,000 parking plan could bring an end to an ongoing turf war between motorists over a 100-yard strip of tarmac in Cryers Hill.

The strip, which lies by the side of Cryers Hill Road near Great Kingshill C of E Combined School, is commonly used by parents and well as a number of large car transporter lorries from a nearby removals company.

Bucks County Council confirmed funding has been agreed for a proposed £12,000 solution in the form of a weight restriction which would – if passed – stop commercial vehicles parking on the layby.

Hughenden Parish Councillor Paul Nicholls said: “The car park spaces in the Cryers Hill parking area were built with the intention of being used by parents delivering and collecting children.

“Instead the parking bays are frequently used by commercial vehicles and non-parents cars parking there for sometimes days.”

Back in November, the school’s head teacher Joanne Garlick claimed the parking situation was “very dangerous” for pupils, despite the vehicles being parked there legally.

Graham Saunders, owner of Saunders removals company whose lorries have been seen parking on the layby, said: “Why should people tell us where to park our vehicles? If they are parked legally what is the issue?

“The school should provide more parking. The layby is not just for them. I don’t expect to be told where I can and cannot park.”

A petition, undertaken by Great Kingshill Residents Association, to find a resolution to the parking problem has to date collected over 500 signatures.

A statement from Transport for Bucks said: “The solution proposed would be an experimental traffic order with a five tonne weight restriction.

“This could be ‘at any time’ or just between 7am-7pm. No lines are required, just the signs.

“We will be working with the parish council to ensure the scheme that develops is agreed by everyone.”
