A Hazlemere school is celebrating 40 years this year with a ball to mark the milestone.

Sir William Ramsay School on Rose Avenue is planning a summer ruby ball on July 15 which will also aim to raise money to provide an outdoor covered seating area for pupils to have their lunch in.

Students have been raising funds for the area after they identified the need for an additional recreation space, which spokesman Andy Hearne, said would make their time at the school “the most comfortable it can be”.

He said: “The space will give pupils the opportunity to relax with their friends in the warmth. The student union requested it as something that would mean a lot to the students here.”

He also told the BFP that the school will be undergoing expansion at the request of Bucks County Council with 10 new classrooms, three new science labs, a new sixth-form centre and reception area being added, as well as a new drop-off area outside the school in order to reduce traffic and make it safer for students walking to and from the school.

Speaking about the expansion, he said: “It is a form of recognition from the council to be asked to expand during our 40th year.

“This is a fantastic year for the school. We have a week’s worth of celebrations lined-up, culminating in the summer ball. It is all very exciting.”

The ball is open to friends and families of pupils as well as members of the community.

Guests will be able to enjoy a drinks reception, three course dinner, bar and live music.

Tickets are £50 and there is a free bottle of wine available for booking a table of 10. To book, go to www.swr.bucks.sch.uk/news.
