Shocking dashcam footage of a man dumping a vanload of rubbish, including three mattresses, at the roadside led to the culprit being tracked down and fined more than £1,350.

Flytipper Ciprian Toma, from Slough, drove into south Bucks and unloaded a hoard of rubbish on a stretch of grass on a quiet country lane.

The 25-year-old was close to getting away with the crime too, but was unknowingly caught out when a passing motorist captured the incident on his dashboard-mounted camera as he drove along Trenches Lane, in Iver.

The video evidence led to Toma pleading guilty at court and he has now been forced to pay a fine of £925, prosecution costs of £340 and a victim surcharge of £93 – leaving him with a £1,358 bill.

He was seen of the film dumping a plastic bag on top of an already existing large pile of household waste at an entrance to a field.

Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire investigators interviewed Toma at a police station, where he denied the allegations, even though he knew he had been caught on a dashcam and seen by the passing motorist.

He stated that on the day in question he had been refused entry at the Langley Household Waste Recycling Centre and had transferred plastic bags and other household waste at the side of the road from his van into a friend’s car.

This was to enable the friend to take the waste into the HWRC on his behalf.

Mike Smith, Chairman of the Joint Waste Partnership for Buckinghamshire, said: "This is a perfect example of how ordinary motorists can help us catch flytippers.

“It also shows that the public are not prepared to tolerate this behaviour, they do not want their communities and environments used as ad hoc rubbish dumps.

“Public vigilance has played a vital role in many of our prosecutions and people know we will take action once we have the evidence to take a case to court."
