Handycross Runners are holding a 24 hour charity relay challenge at the Little Marlow running track from Friday, June 17 to Saturday June 18. The club is encouraging people of all ages and abilities to take part, and say entrants do not have to be runners to join in. The 24 hours – which runs from 7pm to 7pm – are broken down in to 30 minute slots which cost £5 to enter. Marlow Town Council is offering people the chance to have their photo taken with the Queen at the Regatta on Sunday, June 12. A Trigger Happy Photobooth will be set up at the MTC stand in Higginson Park enabling visitors to have their photo taken with a cardboard cut-out of her majesty outside Buckingham Palace for free. The Marlow Players will host a murder mystery evening on Friday, June 24 at Liston Hall from 7.30 pm. Tickets cost £15 which includes a fish and chips dinner. The optional dress code is 1940’s. The annual Salvo fair in Henley-on-Thames will have the theme Hats off to Women in celebration of women who buy, sell, design, write about and promote the trade. Inspirational women will be telling their stories at the fair on Friday, June 17 from 1pm at Icehouse Lane on Fawley Hill. Marlow Archaeology will hold a one day trial trench excavation in Higginson Park on Sunday, June 5 from 10am to 3pm. The trial trench is next to the Causeway and entrance is free. The group is also hosting an illustrated talk by Ben Ford on The medieval Greyfriars excavations at Westgate in Oxford on Thursday, June 16 at 8pm. Marlow based solicitors Gabbitas Robins has raised £6,745 for charity by writing wills for residents in exchange for a donation to the British Red Cross. Anna Rzemieniecka from the Red Cross presented staff with a certificate last week letting them know how much they raised after the month long fundraiser in November last year. 115 wills were written over the course of the month.

Businesses minded pupils at Great Marlow School handed over cheques for £500 each to the charities Retts Syndrome at Build on Books. The money was raised by the school’s Interact Club which sees young people organise events to raise money for charity. The money was raised through cake sales, helping the Rotary Clubs at the Santa Fun Run and the Cookham Regatta. They also took tins of biscuits to old people’s homes at Christmas.

The picturesque gardens of Lords Wood will be opening for the public to enjoy on Thursday, June 23 and Thursday, September 15 from 11 to 4.30. Guests will be able to enjoy vegetable, flower and herb gardens as well as large water gardens, rockery, orchard woodland and a meadow with a view over the Chilterns. Admission is £4, children go free. Visits are also available from June to September for groups of 15 plus.

A display of vintage pictures will be on show at Burgers bakery on the Causeway as part of Love Marlow Festival. Marlow Free Press columnist Michael Eagleton has teamed up with the Marlow Society to provide the display of 50 pictures throughout time including a poster from 1855. The showcase includes is an admission badge to the Rowing Club lawn from 1902, when the Regatta fell on the same day as Edward VII’s Coronation. Pictures of novelty events in the now defunct Rag Regattas are also included plus a few rare Rowing Club group photographs.

An EU referendum debate will be held in Marlow Bottom on Friday, June 3. Residents have been invited to gather at the Methodist Chapel, 148 Marlow Bottom, at 7.30 for the discussion between MEP Anneliese Dodds who will be arguing to remain and High Wycombe’s MP Steve Baker who will be arguing to leave. The debate has been organised by Valley Plus and is open to all Valley residents.
