A youth who was jailed after a gang armed with a fake AK47 rifle robbed a High Wycombe corner shop deserves every day of his sentence, judges have ruled.

Tre Washington Bushay, 20, was one of two robbers who burst into the Roberts Road shop, masked and carrying an imitation rifle.

The pair demanded money from the Corner Express Today's Local staff and took less than £200, before jumping into a vehicle and being whisked away by their getaway driver.

Bushay admitted robbery and having an imitation firearm and was sentenced to five years' custody at Aylesbury Crown Court last November.

He appealed the decision on Thursday (June 23), but two senior judges sitting at London's Court of Appeal said the five-year term was fully justified.

Despite his young age, Bushay, of Gomm Place, already had an extensive criminal record, Mr Justice William Davis said during the hearing.

The May 2015 raid was a planned robbery at night and involved the men wearing head-to-foot coveralls and stocking masks, he said.

The gang robbed the Today's Local shop, in Roberts Road, in May 2015.

“It was planned because people don't happen to have white coverall suits and stocking masks, still less imitation AK47 assault rifles, about their person as they go down the street,” said the appeal judge.

“Use of the very convincing firearm and disguises were all aggravating matters.”

Bushay's previous convictions included theft, battery, supplying drugs and robbery.

His lawyers claimed his sentence was too long, partly because of his vulnerability, immaturity and relatively low mental capability.

But dismissing the appeal, Mr Justice Davis, sitting with Mr Justice Flaux, said Bushay had been an “equal player” in the robbery and deserved what he got.
