A service to commemorate 300 years of the Royal Artillery has been hailed as “absolutely wonderful” by the Wycombe & District branch of the Royal Artillery Association.

Serving soldiers and veterans took part in the service at High Wycombe Cemetery in Priory Road on Friday, which was led by rev Chris Bull, County Chaplain to Buckinghamshire Royal British Legion.

There are believed to be 12 gunners' graves in the cemetery of soldiers from south Bucks who served in the different world wars.

Around 60 people were joined by Stuart Reid, chairman of the Wycombe & District branch of the Royal Artillery Association (RAA), High Wycombe mayor Zia Ahmed and chairman of Wycombe District Council (WDC), cllr Mahboob Hussain, who all laid wreaths on the graves.

Seven serving soldiers of the 9 (Plassey) Battery, 12 Regiment Royal Artillery, were also present, as well as lieutenant colonel Nick Launders, president of the Wycombe & District branch of the RAA, and a representative from RAF High Wycombe.

Mr Reid said: “It was an absolutely wonderful and glorious day. We had fantastic weather – it couldn’t have been better.”

A reception was held for all the attendees at the Wycombe Marsh Royal British Legion Club in Cock Lane after the service, were a toast was made to the Queen who has been the Royal Artillery’s captain-general for 65 years.
