A new railway station has opened in Bucks for giants and human beans alike in celebration of children’s author Roald Dahl.

Great Missenden Railway Station has today been renamed Giant Missenden by Chiltern Railways.

Giant Missenden station uses Gobblefunk signage to avoid confusion and ensure giants and human beans are able to read them, while Giant Liaison Officers are on hand to help.

Giant Liaison Officers, Shaun Dawson, said: “I get on with everyone and try to be helpful. As friendly giants use the station, it helps that I’m 6’ 7” and that I can speak a little Gobblefunk.

“Now and again I have to remind everyone that human beans are not to be guzzled and I direct them to our cafe where they can find scrumdiddlyumptious snacks and, if they are lucky, Frobscottle.”

The special new station, in the village where Roald Dahl lived for 36 years until he died in 1990, is partly a celebration of the release of Steven Spielberg’s The BFG, which hits the cinema on Friday.

2016 also marks 100 years since the master storyteller was born.
