Almost 50 senior citizens enjoyed bingo, a raffle and music after being invited to a tea party hosted by sixth form students from a High Wycombe secondary school.

The party was organised by the sixth form at The Highcrest Academy, who decorated the school’s dance studio with balloons, flags and flowers.

They also designed the invitations, helped with food and chatted to guests.

One of the guests was 92-year-old Second World War veteran Ted Scott, from High Wycombe, who was a gunner during the Normandy landings.

He showed the students pictures of his medals and told them of his wartime memories.

Mr Scott said: “I enjoyed the party – I have been to two or three before at Highcrest but this was better than ever because it was bigger.

“The children were so nice and I look forward to going again at Christmas.”

Departing principal Shena Moynihan said: “The sixth formers did an excellent job of making everyone feel very welcome and it was, once again, a very successful party.”
