Naphill’s oldest pub is celebrating after scooping a top regional award naming it Summer Pub of the Year.

The Wheel in Main Road, which dates back to the late 1700s, won the award from Campaign For Real Ales’ (CAMRA) beating 280 pubs in the area, voted for by more than 800 members of the Aylesbury Vale & Wycombe branch of CAMRA.

It is the second time landlords Mark and Claire Christian, who recently celebrated a decade at the pub, have won an accolade from CAMRA, previously having won Branch Pub of the Year in 2011.

Speaking about the win, Claire said: “We are very pleased. We have been at the pub for 10 years and I am very proud of my staff for winning this award.

“The local community is very pleased for us – they are happy to see that we are still looking after our ales and that they have a great pub to come to.”

The pub is also a regular in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide.

Carl Griffin, regional director for Aylesbury Vale & Wycombe CAMRA praised the pub’s “wonderful” beer garden and “great” beer festivals.

He said: “The award is given to the pub that offers an all-round great summer experience.

“It is quite a big achievement. Their wonderful beer garden is delightful in the summer months. They have been one of our high performing pubs for quite some time.”
