The High Wycombe community has rallied together to revitalise the River Wye as part of the council’s masterplan.

Almost 250 volunteers took part in the Revive the Wye project over the course of a week, including members from the Chiltern Rangers.

They worked alongside staff from Wycombe District Council, the police, the fire service and ‘Young Roots’ youth project members.

The project will improve conditions for trout to spawn in by speeding up the water flow, as well as provide a place for the ducks to rest, and an attractive native plant species to bloom.

As well as improving wildlife conditions, the project aims to bring the community together - something John Shaw, managing director of Chiltern Rangers, believes was a “massive triumphant success” allowing the “magic to happen.”

On the opening day of the project, cllr David Johncock, cabinet member for planning and sustainability at Wycombe District Council, said : “It’s great to see such an enthusiastic team of people pitching in to help today and working alongside our contractors in this stretch of the river.”
