An RAF serviceman based at High Wycombe will face a trial after being accused of rape by a civilian woman.

Paul Miles, 54, was hauled in front of a crown court judge today where he denied carrying out a series of sex attacks in Buckinghamshire.

The serviceman is accused of a string of crimes, including one count of rape on March 12, 2015, and assault by penetration on the same date, where he allegedly used his fingers to touch a woman sexually.

Miles is set to return to court in December for a four-day trial and if found guilty could face being dismissed by the RAF – who would only confirm that one of their servicemen had appeared in court.

He also faces a charge of sexual assault by touching between August 12, 2012, and March 3, 2015, all relating to the same alleged victim.

And stands accused of sexual assault by touching from December 20, 2010, until January 1, 2011, following allegations made by another woman.

Neither of the women is serving in the armed forces and the alleged attacks did not take place at Air Command RAF High Wycombe, but in Weston Turville, a village 11 miles away.

And another of the alleged crimes was said to have taken place in the neighbouring village of Aston Clinton, according to one of the victims.

Balding Miles denied all charges when they were put to him at Aylesbury Crown Court today.

The 54-year-old was represented by defence counsel Nicola Cafferkey, who he was funding privately and not through legal aid.

Ms Cafferkey argued for the case to be further adjourned but Judge Francis Sheridan rejected the application, setting a trial date for December 5.

Bail conditions were set preventing Miles, who wore a black suit and red tie as he stood in the dock, from contacting either victim or to enter Aylesbury town centre.

Judge Sheridan told Miles: "If the defence statement is not sufficiently detailed, you could be criticised for it. If you fail to attend your trial it is a criminal offence and the trial will proceed in your absence."

Miles, sporting a red tie, left the court with two men and a woman who accompanied him.

An RAF spokesman said: “The RAF can confirm that a Service Person based at RAF High Wycombe, has appeared at Aylesbury Crown Court charged with alleged sexual offences.

“It would be inappropriate for the RAF to comment further while legal proceedings are on-going.”
