High Wycombe ended their Home Counties Premier League Division One season on a high with a three-wicket victory over Reading.

They won the match in commanding fashion as they chased down a target of 182 in just 26.5 overs to finish the campaign in third spot.

Reading won the toss and elected to bat at their home ground in a decision which looked flawed after they fell to 38-5.

They were in desperate need of a partnership and Asim Zaka and Jack Beaven duly delivered with a stand of 109 for the sixth wicket.

Beaven’s 64 was particularly impressive in an innings which lasted 62 balls and featured 12 fours and one six.

Zaka was more measured in making 67 but no less shy in finding the boundary rope with 10 fours and a six to his name.

There efforts gave Reading a score which they could defend as Wycombe dismissed their opponents for 181.

Xavier Owen was their most productive bowler with 3-30 while Garth Davson (2-12) and Connor Haddow (2-36) also claimed wickets.

The visitor’s response was emphatic and they put on 136 before Gavin Baker (40) became their first wicket.

He and fellow opener, Davson, have been among Wycombe’s best batsmen this season and the latter once again showed his quality with a classy ton.

The century was the Wycombe man’s fourth of the season and he ends the campaign with an average of 70.67.

Davson took just 76 deliveries to reach 100 before falling to Reading’s star bowler Amardeep Sing Dosanjh.

The Reading man finished with 5-49 to give his side hope of recovering from their dire position, but Wycombe remained composed to ease to victory.

Beaven was the only other man the strike for the hosts and claimed 2-43 in their losing cause.

After setting out to retain their title, Wycombe ultimately fell someway short of their target with eventual champions Finchampstead finishing 56 points ahead of them.
